Jeffrey Pikus - Leading Kids Do Care Since 2006
A nonprofit leader based in New York City, New York, Jeffrey Pikus founded Kids Do Care, Ltd. in 2006 to foster connection between elementary school students and military servicemen and women. Under his direction, the organization provides a grade-appropriate curriculum with lessons on history and current events to elementary schools nationwide. It also encourages students to write letters to members of the US Armed Forces. Jeffrey Pikus was inspired to launch the organization by his mother, a former elementary school teacher who, in the 1960s, had her students write letters to US soldiers in Vietnam.
Kids Do Care also invites service members to visit participating schools to speak about what they do and what it means to receive students' letters. Through these letters and visits, students learn about the courage and sacrifice of those who protect their freedoms.
Jeffrey Pikus has also supported other organizations, including Hale House, a nonprofit that provides supportive housing to people experiencing homelessness. His extracurricular interests include softball, hockey, and football. His grandfather played football at Duquesne University and is a member of its Sports Hall of Fame.
